Description

M22759/32-12-9 Wire, 1 stranded conductor, Jacketed, Light Weight, 12AWG, White — BOLTON SKU 61403.

About the M22759/32-12-9 Aerospace Wire

SAE AS22759/32, formerly MIL-W-22759/32, covers wire insulated with a single extruded layer of cross-linked modified ETFE over a tin-coated copper conductor, rated 600 V and 150 °C. At 12 AWG this part is the largest conductor size published on the slash sheet, and the construction reflects that: 37 strands of 28 AWG rather than the 19-strand ropes used at the smaller sizes, which keeps a heavy conductor flexible enough to route and terminate. The published dimensional data gives a stranded conductor diameter of 0.084 in and a finished insulation outside diameter between 0.100 in and 0.106 in. Electrically it is the lowest-resistance size in the table at 2.02 ohms per 1,000 ft maximum at 20 °C, and the heaviest at 19.70 lb per 1,000 ft, so a run of it carries a real mass penalty in a harness. The trailing 9 is the colour designator for white.

Typical applications

The low conductor resistance at 12 AWG puts this size on the current-carrying end of a harness: primary power feeds, distribution runs between bus bars and load centres, and supplies to motors, actuators and other high-draw equipment, where volt-drop over the run rather than signal integrity sets the gauge. Because it is the heaviest size on the slash sheet, designers usually reserve it for the runs that genuinely need it and step down for branch circuits. Termination hardware, lugs and support clamps must be sized for the 0.100 to 0.106 in finished diameter, so confirm the connector and backshell selection alongside the wire.
