Description

M23053/5-206-C Tubing, Heat-Shrinkable, Thin wall, Fluid Resistant, 1/4″ 125 °C, Clear — BOLTON SKU 55160.

About the M23053/5-206-C Heat Shrink Tubing

MIL-DTL-23053/5 covers flexible, crosslinked polyolefin heat-shrinkable insulation sleeving; the part number is built as class digit, size identifier and colour code. In M23053/5-206-C the leading 2 is Class 2, which MIL-DTL-23053/5C furnishes in clear only and classifies as flammable — unlike Class 1 (flame resistant) and Class 3 (highly flame resistant) — so it should not be substituted where a flame-resistant sleeve is called for. Size identifier 06 is the 1/4 in size, with a minimum as-supplied inside diameter of .250 in (6.35 mm) recovering to a maximum .125 in (3.18 mm) and a recovered wall of .025 ± .003 in. The colour designator C denotes clear. Class 2 shares the −55 °C to +135 °C continuous operating range with Class 1, and the specification adds a clarity stability requirement that applies specifically to the clear material.

Key specifications

Class Class 2 — flammable (clear only)
Nominal size 1/4 in
As-supplied ID, minimum .250 in (6.35 mm)
ID after unrestricted shrinkage, maximum .125 in (3.18 mm)
Recovered wall thickness .025 ± .003 in (.635 ± .076 mm)
Continuous operating temperature −55 °C to +135 °C (Classes 1 and 2)
Colour Clear (colour code C)
Tensile strength, minimum 1,500 psi (10.3 MPa)
Ultimate elongation, minimum 200 %
Dielectric strength, minimum 500 V/mil (19.7 kV/mm)

Typical applications

The reason to specify the clear Class 2 material is visibility: the joint underneath stays readable after recovery, so printed wire markers, splice barrels, colour-coded conductors and solder joints can all be inspected without cutting the sleeve back. At a recovered .125 in bore the 1/4 in size is a natural fit over in-line splices and small terminations on single conductors and light bundles. Because this class is flammable, it is normally used on bench and test assemblies and in open equipment rather than in flame-critical harness runs.
