Description
3M 7447C scotch brite — BOLTON SKU 63978.
About the 3M 7447C scotch brite
Scotch-Brite 7447 is 3M’s general purpose hand pad: a non-woven, open-web nylon construction loaded with very fine grade aluminium oxide mineral, supplied in the familiar maroon colour and a 6 in x 9 in pad size. The open web resists loading, and the pad can be used dry, with water or with solvents, then rinsed and reused. 3M positions its cutting performance as comparable to grade 1 steel wool, but without the drawbacks of steel wool: the pad does not shred in use, does not rust afterwards, and does not leave fine metal splinters behind. It can be used by hand for close control, wrapped around a hand pad block for a uniform finish, or fitted to an in-line sander to cover larger areas. Typical duties are scuffing, blending, cleaning and general surface preparation ahead of coating or bonding.

Typical applications
Non-woven hand pads of this grade are a standard workshop consumable for scuffing and keying surfaces before painting, bonding or sealing, and for cleaning light oxidation off metal parts. They are widely used in aerospace and vehicle MRO bays, sheet-metal shops and composite repair areas. Because the pad leaves no metal residue, it is also used where ferrous contamination of a surface must be avoided.
