About the David Clark 18746G-01 Headset Station, U3801
Part number 18746G-01 is the David Clark Model U3801 Remote Headset Station, a module in the Series 3800 vehicle intercom system. Its function is to add a crew position to an intercom system beyond the master station: it provides a single headset jack and a listen-level control at that position. It takes its power from the U3800 master station through a C38 jumper cord rather than from a separate supply. The manufacturer notes that the U3801 has no onward connections for daisy-chaining further modules, so it is designed to sit at the end of a chain of headset stations. Because the module carries only a listen-level control, transmit and system-level functions remain with the master station. Cords, headsets and system cabling are ordered separately.

Typical applications
Vehicle intercom stations of this type are fitted to fire and rescue apparatus, ambulances, command and control vehicles, aircraft de-icers and paint stripers, and similar crewed platforms where several people must communicate over engine and equipment noise. They are also used on ground-support and airside vehicles operating in high-noise areas. System design, cable lengths and headset selection are normally fixed at the point of installation.
