The Vishay global part number resolves field by field: CRCW0805 identifies the D12/CRCW0805 e3 standard thick film chip resistor, 3K40 encodes the resistance using the R/K/M decimal convention (3.40 kΩ), F sets the resistance tolerance at ±1%, K sets the temperature coefficient of resistance at ±100 ppm/K, and EA is the lead-free packaging code for a 5,000-piece 180 mm (7-inch) reel. Typical applications

A 3.40 kΩ E96 value at ±1% is chosen where a ratio has to be held rather than simply a current limited, so it appears in feedback and reference dividers, gain-setting legs around operational amplifiers and instrumentation stages, and biasing networks in analogue front ends. The 0805 case gives useful headroom at 0.125 W for the modest dissipation such networks produce and is large enough to inspect and rework by hand.
