About the Permabond ET5429-400 Structural Epoxy, 400 ml
The ET5429-400 structural epoxy adhesive is the 400 ml cartridge presentation of Permabond ET5429, a two-part toughened epoxy mixed at a 2:1 ratio. The formulation is thixotropic, so it can be applied to vertical surfaces without slumping and will bridge bond gaps of up to 5 mm. It is a slow-setting grade: working life is 120 to 240 minutes, handling strength is reached in roughly 360 to 600 minutes, and full cure takes three days. Permabond publishes retention of approximately 50 per cent of maximum strength at 105 °C, and the toughened chemistry is intended to resist impact and vibration. Listed substrates include composites, metals, thermoset plastics, wood and ceramics. The 400 ml cartridge is dispensed with a matching 2:1 applicator gun and a static mixer nozzle.

Typical applications
The long working life of this grade suits larger bonded assemblies where the whole joint must be laid up and clamped before the adhesive begins to set, which is why it is used on composite panel and structure bonding. Its gap-filling, non-slump consistency makes it practical for vertical and overhead joints and for bonds between parts with loose fit-up. The elevated-temperature retention figure makes it a candidate where a bonded joint sees warm service rather than ambient only.
