Description
1N5822 Schottky Diode Rectifier, Vr 40V, Io 3A — BOLTON SKU 59341.
About the 1N5822 Schottky Diode, 40V 3A
The 1N5822 is an industry-standard Schottky barrier rectifier, here from STMicroelectronics, rated at 40 V maximum repetitive reverse voltage and 3 A average forward current. As a Schottky device it conducts through a metal-semiconductor junction rather than a P-N junction, giving a markedly lower forward voltage drop than a standard silicon rectifier of the same current class and effectively no reverse-recovery charge, which reduces conduction and switching losses in low-voltage circuits. STMicroelectronics supplies the 1N5822 in the axial DO-201AD package with plated leads for through-hole mounting. Because Schottky rectifiers have higher reverse leakage than P-N types and it rises with junction temperature, derating against the manufacturer’s datasheet curves is standard practice in continuous-duty designs. Typical applications
The 1N5822 is used for output rectification and freewheeling in low-voltage switch-mode converters, reverse-polarity protection on DC supply inputs, and blocking diodes in battery and solar charge paths. Its 40 V rating and low forward drop suit 12 V and 24 V equipment rails common in vehicle and field electronics.
