About the R381-40-318 Rubber Cable Grommet, G10
This part is catalogued as the R381-40-318 cable rubber grommet and is manufactured in 40 shore EPDM. A cable grommet is a moulded rubber ring fitted into a panel or bulkhead aperture so that a cable passing through the opening bears on rubber rather than on a cut sheet-metal edge. That protects the cable jacket from abrasion during installation and from chafing caused by vibration in service, and it also closes the annular gap around the cable against dust and splash ingress. EPDM is chosen for this class of part where ozone, weathering, water and general outdoor exposure resistance are the governing requirements. The 40 shore hardness is a soft grade, which allows the grommet to be compressed into the panel hole and to conform closely around the cable. Full dimensional data is confirmed at quotation.

Typical applications
Soft EPDM grommets of this type are used where cable looms pass through equipment enclosures, junction boxes, vehicle and trailer panels, shelter walls and machinery guards. The soft 40 shore compound suits panel apertures that need a snug interference fit without special tooling, and the EPDM base polymer makes the part a reasonable choice for outdoor and weather-exposed installations rather than for hydrocarbon-wetted positions, where a different elastomer would normally be specified.
