About the SEGGER J-Link PRO PoE

The SEGGER J-Link PRO PoE is a JTAG and SWD debug and programming probe supplied under SEGGER part number 8.12.28. It connects to the host over Ethernet or USB and can be powered directly from the network using Power over Ethernet to IEEE 802.3af, which removes the need for a local supply in rack-mounted or distributed test setups. SEGGER quotes download speeds of up to 4 MB/s. The probe can also supply power to the target board through the 20-pin debug header or its USB-A port. Licences for unlimited flash breakpoints, RDI/RDDI and J-Flash are included, together with Real Time Transfer (RTT) and virtual COM port functionality. Network configuration is handled through DHCP and a built-in web interface. The 8.12.28 J-Link PRO debug probe runs on Windows, Linux and macOS and is supported by Eclipse, GDB-based IDEs and SEGGER Embedded Studio. It ships with a USB cable and a 20-pin 0.1 in ribbon cable, and is quoted here with SEGGER Basic 12-month support.

Typical applications

Network-powered probes of this type are specified for automated test farms and hardware-in-the-loop benches, where a single Ethernet run carries both power and the debug connection to each target and no local mains outlet is needed at the rack position. The DHCP and web-interface configuration allows the probe to be addressed remotely, which suits laboratories where the target hardware and the engineer are not in the same room. The included flash-programming licence also makes it usable for small-batch production programming.
