Description
Recrystallized Alumina Tube, 8mm x 76.5cm — BOLTON SKU 54344.
About the Recrystallized Alumina Tube 8mm x 76.5cm
This recrystallized alumina tube 8mm 76.5 cm long is a sintered high-purity ceramic tube with an 8 mm outside diameter and a 5 mm inside diameter, giving a 1.5 mm wall, held to a dimensional tolerance of ±0.5 mm. The body is 99.5 % Al₂O₃ with a density of 3.9 g/cm³ and zero water absorption, so the wall is non-wicking. Firing is carried out at a sintering temperature of 1800 °C, and the finished tube is rated for long-term working at 1650 °C with a maximum working temperature of 1750 °C. Mechanical properties quoted for the material are a bending strength of 360 MPa at 20 °C and a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, which is why alumina at this purity resists abrasion and holds its form under load at temperature rather than creeping.

Typical applications
Tubes of this bore and length are used as thermocouple protection sheaths, furnace insulating and gas-delivery tubes, and sample carriers in high-temperature tube furnaces. The 1650 °C long-term rating covers most laboratory and heat-treatment furnace duty, and the zero water absorption allows the tube to be used where a non-porous ceramic path is required. The 5 mm bore suits small-diameter probe and lead assemblies run down the length of the tube.
