About the M23053/16-002-0 Heat Shrink Tubing
M23053/16-002-0 is a heat-shrinkable tubing part number written against MIL-DTL-23053/16, the detail specification covering flexible, heat-shrinkable elastomeric polyolefin sleeving; the item designation also names the TE Connectivity (Raychem) Thermofit DR-25 family. Published data for the /16 slash sheet describes a tubing that resists aviation and diesel fuels, hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils, and that protects wires, solder joints, terminals, connections and components from those fluids as well as from abrasion and mechanical damage. It shrinks by 50% or more radially and 10% or less axially — the 2:1 ratio quoted in the item name — with a minimum shrink temperature of 135 °C and a continuous operating range of −75 °C to +120 °C. In the 3/8 in size the tubing is supplied at a minimum 0.375 in (9.6 mm) internal diameter and recovers to a maximum 0.187 in (4.8 mm) internal diameter, with a minimum recovered wall of 0.040 in (1.02 mm). Standard colour is black, matching the -0 colour code.

Typical applications
At 3/8 in expanded diameter this size covers medium bundles and larger single leads, recovering to around 4.8 mm to grip the harness beneath. The fuel, hydraulic-fluid and oil resistance of the /16 material suits engine-bay, landing-gear and airframe wiring runs, ground-support equipment and vehicle looms. The same properties are used to protect solder joints, terminals and splices at points where abrasion and fluid exposure occur together.
