About the M22759/18-22-2 Aerospace Wire
M22759/18, maintained today as SAE AS22759/18, is the thin-wall (light-weight) slash sheet of the M22759 airframe wire family: a tin-plated copper conductor with extruded ETFE insulation, rated 600 V over −55 °C to +150 °C. The two trailing fields give conductor size and colour, so 22 is 22 AWG and 2 is red, the colour digit being assigned in accordance with MIL-STD-681. In 22 AWG the conductor is stranded 19/34 with a diameter of 0.030 in, and the finished insulated outside diameter is 0.041–0.045 in — noticeably slimmer than the normal-wall /16 equivalent, which is the point of the /18 sheet. Red is conventionally reserved for identifying a specific circuit function within a harness, so this reel is normally ordered against a wiring diagram rather than as general stock. Wire is supplied from spool and cut to the ordered length.
