About the RFDesign FTDI USB Cable 3.3
This is the RFDesign FTDI USB cable in the 3.3 V variant: a USB-to-TTL serial adapter cable with an FTDI bridge chip moulded into the USB connector shell, presenting 3.3 V logic levels on the serial side while drawing its 5 V supply from the USB port. Its stated purpose is to interface an RFD900-series radio modem — or any other TTL-level serial device — to a PC through USB, so the modem can be configured, updated and monitored from a ground control station or a bench. The cable is quoted at 1.8 m length. FTDI-based cables of this type are used with the manufacturer’s Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers, which present the cable to the host operating system as a standard serial port; RFDesign publishes guidance on driver versions for these cables.
