About the DMC GMT232 Crimp Tool, M22520/37-01 Hand Tool
The DMC GMT232 Crimp hand tool is the Daniels Manufacturing general-purpose crimp tool assigned military part number M22520/37-01. It is a ratchet-controlled tool: the ratchet does not release until the jaws have fully closed, which prevents an under-formed crimp being produced and removed unnoticed. The tool is intended for low-profile environmental splices to the M81824 series, covering slash sheets /1, /6, /7, /8, /9, /10, /11, /13 and /14, and spans the red 26–20 AWG, blue 20–16 AWG and yellow 16–12 AWG splice sizes in a single tool. An integral locator holds the splice in the correct position while each wire in turn is terminated, so both ends of a splice are formed to the same geometry. The specification calls for a compression force of at least 40 lb applied 1.25 ±0.125 in from the handle ends to close the jaws. The tool is manufactured in the United States.

Typical applications
Environmental splices of this class are used in aircraft, vehicle and ground-equipment harnesses where a repair or a mid-run join must remain sealed against moisture. Covering three splice colour codes in one tool suits maintenance benches and field kits that have to handle mixed wire gauges without carrying several crimpers. The controlled-cycle ratchet supports work carried out under an inspected wiring standard, where crimp completion has to be assured rather than judged by feel.
