Description

M83519/2-12 Soldersleeve, Heat-Shrinkable, 3.68 mm Shield Terminator, 24 AWG Ground Lead — BOLTON SKU 59043.

About the M83519/2-12 Heat-Shrinkable Soldersleeve Heat Shrink

M83519 is the qualified-product designation under SAE-AS83519 (formerly MIL-S-83519) for insulated, heat-shrinkable, environment-resistant solder-sleeve shield terminations. Slash sheet /2 covers the shield-to-ground style: a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) sleeve, blue in colour, containing a pre-installed solder preform and a pre-attached ground lead. In use the sleeve is slid over the exposed cable braid with the ground lead alongside; applying heat simultaneously melts the solder preform to bond the lead to the shield, shrinks the sleeve, and forms a sealed, insulated and strain-relieved joint in a single operation. The sleeve carries a thermochromic temperature indicator that changes appearance once sufficient heat has been applied, giving the operator and the inspector a visual check that the termination was properly processed. This dash number is held against a 3.68 mm shield diameter with a 24 AWG ground lead.

Typical applications

Solder-sleeve shield terminators are used throughout aerospace and defence harness manufacture and repair wherever a braided cable screen must be brought out to a ground point — at connector backshells, ground studs and shield bus arrangements in airframe, avionics, UAV and ground support wiring. They allow a screened termination to be made with a heat gun rather than a soldering iron, which suits confined installation work and field repair. Sleeve size must be matched to the actual measured shield diameter of the cable.
