Description

IC-A120 VHF Air Band Transceiver — BOLTON SKU 69462.

About the IC-A120 VHF Air Band Transceiver

The Icom IC-A120 is a VHF air band transceiver for mobile and base installation. It transmits and receives across 118.000 to 136.992 MHz and supports both 25 kHz and 8.33 kHz channel spacing, so it can be configured for airspace operating on either channelisation. Icom publishes an output of 36 W PEP, with carrier power of 9.0 W typical and 10.0 W maximum, from a 13.75 V or 27.5 V DC supply. The set holds 200 memory channels, each of which can carry a 12-character name, shown on a full dot-matrix LCD with alphanumerics and icons. Signal handling includes active noise cancelling to reduce steady background noise and an automatic noise limiter for pulse-type noise such as engine ignition; Icom notes the two functions do not operate simultaneously. The chassis is rated IP54 for dust and water ingress, measures 161 × 45 × 175 mm and weighs about 1.5 kg. Bluetooth headset support is available through the optional UT-133A unit.

Typical applications

Air band transceivers of this type are used for ground-crew and apron communications, marshalling and pushback coordination, fire and rescue vehicles operating airside, flight-line and hangar operations, and fixed ground stations at aerodromes and test ranges. They are also used by UAV ground control teams that must monitor or coordinate with airspace users. Frequency programming and use are subject to national radio licensing in the country of operation.
