This is a D-subminiature connector to the MIL-DTL-24308 detail specification, the United States military standard that governs D-sub connectors and sets their mechanical, electrical and manufacturing requirements. The part is a 25-contact receptacle in the standard density layout, the arrangement historically designated DB-25: contacts within each row are spaced approximately 2.76 mm apart and the two rows are spaced approximately 2.84 mm apart, inside a D-shaped shell whose asymmetry polarises the mating pair so it cannot be engaged inverted. The connector carries socket, or female, contacts, and uses crimp termination: each contact is crimped onto its conductor and then inserted into the insulator, which means individual circuits can be extracted and replaced without disturbing the rest of the harness.
