The FTDI TTL-232R-3V3 USB to TTL Serial cable is a converter cable from FTDI that presents a UART on a 6-way 0.1 inch pitch single-in-line socket, with an FT232R-family USB-UART bridge IC moulded into the USB connector end. Signal levels on the UART side are 3.3 V TTL, allowing direct connection to 3.3 V microcontrollers and embedded boards without level shifting; per FTDI’s data sheet the header also carries a +5 V supply pin from USB while I/O remains at 3.3 V. FTDI specifies a 1.8 m cable length, USB 2.0 full-speed operation and data rates up to 3 Mbaud. The cable is bus powered and is supported by FTDI’s royalty-free virtual COM port (VCP) drivers on common operating systems, so it appears to host software as a standard serial port. FTDI lists the cable family as CE, FCC and RoHS compliant.
