About the STTC-144 Soldering Equipment
The METCAL STTC-144 is a soldering tip cartridge from Metcal’s STTC series, the standard cartridge family for the MX-500, MX-5000 and MX-5200 SmartHeat soldering and rework systems. The cartridge integrates tip and heater in a single replaceable unit, and SmartHeat technology self-regulates power against the thermal demand of each joint — there is no operator temperature setting or calibration. STTC-1xx part numbers belong to Metcal’s 700 series, nominally 390 °C, with a 775 °F maximum tip temperature stated in this product’s designation; Metcal recommends the 700 series for the majority of applications. The geometry here is a conical sharp tip, bent 30° with a long-reach form and a 0.5 mm tip size. Bent long-reach profiles are selected for joints in confined or recessed positions that a straight tip cannot address, while the fine 0.5 mm point suits small pads and discrete components. The cartridges work with leaded and lead-free solder.
