The Alpha Wire LC162 technical component is a flat braided lacing tape used to bundle and secure wire harnesses without the hard edges associated with plastic cable ties. The tape is braided from polyester (PET) yarn and given a wax finish, which helps the knots bed down and hold their position. Published dimensions are 2.16 mm wide and 0.35 mm thick, supplied in black on a 457.2 m spool. Rated tensile strength is 50 lb, and the operating temperature range spans -73 °C to +177 °C, which covers most airborne and engine-bay harness environments. The material is made to specification class A-A-52081-B-3 and is free of mercury and copper, so it does not contribute those contaminants in a fire. Because the tape is flat rather than round, it spreads the clamping load across the bundle instead of concentrating it on one conductor, which is why lacing remains standard practice on many aerospace harnesses.
