About the Walksnail Avatar HD Goggles

The Avatar HD Goggles X are the head-worn display half of the Walksnail Avatar digital video system from CaddxFPV. They use an OLED screen running 1920 × 1080 at 100 Hz with a 50° field of view, and support 1080p at 100 or 60 fps and 720p at 100 or 60 fps with H.265 encoding at up to 50 Mbps. CaddxFPV quotes an average latency of 22 ms and a transmission distance of more than 4 km on the 5.725–5.850 GHz band across eight channels, with LHCP antennas and a built-in gyro. Fit adjustment covers +2.0 to −6.0 dioptre and 57–72 mm interpupillary distance. Input voltage is 7–25.2 V, that is a 2S to 6S pack, through a 5.5 × 2.1 mm DC socket, and the published weight is 290 g. Connectivity is HDMI out, HDMI in, a 5-pin 3.5 mm audio port and a microSD slot taking cards up to 256 GB.

Typical applications

Digital FPV goggles are the pilot display for first-person-view flight on small unmanned aircraft, and are used in UAV integration and flight-test work and for camera and payload checks on the bench before flight. The HDMI input allows the headset to be driven from another video source during setup and inspection tasks, and the microSD slot supports local recording of the received feed. Permitted transmitter power differs by regulatory region, as the EIRP figures above show, and airspace and operating rules for FPV flight vary by country and remain the operator’s responsibility.
