About the Metcal BVX-105 Fume Extractor
The BVX-105 is a benchtop fume extraction system for a single soldering or rework position. It is supplied as a complete set: the BVX-100-series extraction unit, a positionable BVX extraction arm and the plenum hood that sits over the work, together with the filter set. On this variant the filter configuration is a pre-filter followed by two gas filters, which is the arrangement chosen when the extracted air is dominated by flux vapour and other gaseous by-products rather than by particulate. The unit accepts a 100 to 240 V ac supply and is self-contained, so neither ducting to outside the building nor a compressed-air supply is required. The BVX-100-series chassis is around 279 mm tall with a 305 x 229 mm plenum, so it can stand on the bench or be fitted underneath it using the optional mounting bracket. Filters are consumable and are replaced as a set of the same configuration.

Typical applications
A single-position extractor of this type is placed at a hand-soldering, rework or conformal coating bench so that flux vapour is drawn away from the operator’s breathing zone at the point it is generated. The pre-/gas-/gas- filter set is selected where the dominant concern is gaseous flux and solvent vapour. Because the unit is self-contained and runs from a wide input-voltage range, it is practical for benches that are reconfigured or relocated, and for workshops where fixed ducting cannot be installed.
