About the AUSTOR 1.2mm Lead Free Solder Wire
The austor 1 2mm lead free solder wire is a flux-cored wire of 1.2 mm diameter, supplied in a 100 g quantity. Its alloy is stated as 99 percent tin, 0.3 percent silver and 0.7 percent copper, a low-silver member of the tin-silver-copper family developed as a lead-free replacement for traditional tin-lead solders. A rosin core means the flux is carried inside the wire itself rather than applied separately: as the wire melts the flux is released ahead of the solder, removes the thin oxide layer from the joint surfaces and allows the molten alloy to wet the metal. Lead-free tin-silver-copper alloys generally need a higher working temperature and wet more slowly than tin-lead, so iron tip temperature and dwell time are usually increased and the finished joint takes on a duller, less mirror-like appearance. At 1.2 mm this is a comparatively heavy gauge, suited to larger joints rather than to fine-pitch work.

Typical applications
A 1.2 mm rosin-cored lead-free wire suits general workshop and field soldering: through-hole component leads, terminal blocks and tag strips, connector solder buckets, earth and screen bonding, and battery-tab or heavy-conductor joints where a thin gauge would need too many passes. It is not the right gauge for fine-pitch surface-mount rework, where a much thinner wire is normally used. Rosin residues should be cleaned or assessed where the assembly carries a no-clean or ionic-contamination requirement.
