About the SS-03 ENGINEER Solder Sucker, Silicone Type
The SS-03 is a spring-loaded desoldering pump whose distinguishing feature is a flexible silicone nozzle rated to 350 °C. Because the nozzle tolerates that temperature it can be placed in direct contact with the soldering iron tip and the joint at the same moment, so the solder does not have time to begin freezing between removing the iron and triggering the pump. The soft nozzle also conforms around the lead and pad rather than sitting off them. The body measures 20 mm in diameter by 153 mm long with a 9 ml chamber, and a self-cleaning shaft clears the barrel on each stroke so solid solder does not accumulate and reduce the vacuum. The tool is designed for one-handed operation. Two spare silicone tubes are supplied with it, 1.5 mm x 3.0 mm x 50 mm and 2.0 mm x 3.0 mm x 50 mm, which are cut down to make replacement nozzles. It is made in Japan.

Typical applications
A desoldering pump of this type is used for through-hole rework: clearing plated holes after a component is removed, recovering connectors and headers, and taking bulk solder off a joint before a braid is used for the final clean-up. The silicone nozzle makes it usable on boards where a rigid PTFE nozzle would need to be held slightly clear of the pad, and it is the reason the tool can be worked with the iron in place. Replacement nozzle stock should be ordered alongside it as a consumable.
